What to expect from Telehealth Services
Therapists will communicate with caregivers before the session to prepare materials that may be needed.
FEEDING SESSIONS
Caregiver Education - Therapists may discuss and trial new feeding techniques following AEIOU and SOS feeding approach.
Caregiver-assisted exercises - Therapists may work with caregivers to help facilitate oral-motor exercises with the child that assist with developing an appropriate pattern for chewing.
Food Sensitivity Training - Therapists may help the child desensitize to a new food the child may have at home. This can include prepping foods, playing with foods, and helping the child become more comfortable with the new foods.
SPEECH SESSIONS
For a younger child:
If your child needs more support attending to a screen independently, caregivers should be present.
Therapists can review/teach strategies to help support language development and speech development skills. In addition, the therapist will provide an activity for the child to complete to target a language or motor skill the child is working toward.
For an older, independent child:
If your child is school-age and independent, they can attend the session independently.
Therapy will focus on targeting their individual goals including but not limited to: Myo-functional exercises, motor speech sound targets (e.g., child is working on /l/), stuttering/ fluency strategies, and voice exercises.
Similar to an in-person session, the therapist will offer games/online activities to motivate the child to work on their skills.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SESSIONS
Caregiver Education - Therapists may provide education supporting your child’s goals in sensory processing and motor skill development. Education can involve occupations of self-care, feeding, sleep, attention, anxiety, executive functioning skills, or any aspect of occupational performance that comes up within the home.
Activity coaching - The virtual therapist may coach your child through one or two activities related to their in-person therapy sessions.
